At Geekery as a Service, we love using tech to make life a little smarter, and a lot more efficient. One of the latest projects we’ve been working on is Podcast Insider, a SaaS product designed to help busy people get the best bits of their favourite podcasts, without having to spend hours listening.
🎧 The Problem: Too Many Podcasts, Too Little Time
Let’s face it, we’re all drowning in content. Podcasts are booming, but not everyone has the time (or brain space) to keep up. Podcast Insider solves this by delivering daily summaries, key takeaways, and notable quotes from popular podcasts, straight to your inbox, ready to read with your morning coffee.
🔧 Behind the Scenes: How We Built It
We’ve built Podcast Insider in Laravel, with a Livewire-powered frontend. It plugs into a summarisation pipeline, stores podcast preferences per user, and sends tailored content via email every morning.
Some of the recent tech highlights:
- ✅ Paddle integration for managing subscriptions and payments
- ✅ API for full podcast transcripts
- ✅ Custom summarisation logic using AI to keep things accurate and punchy
- ✅ Daily task scheduling and queue management for personalised email delivery
Future work:
- 🧠 Bookmarking, your favourite quotes or episodes.
- 🧠 Direct link to podcasts so you can listen immediately to ones that sound interesting
- 🧠 NativePHP mobile app (in progress) with push notifications
- 🧠 Pro mode, get customised summaries JUST for you.
🧪 Testing, Learning, Iterating
We’re following a lean SaaS approach, launching with a small group of users, refining based on feedback, and testing monetisation strategies.
One thing we’ve learned? User experience trumps clever tech every time. People love the content, but the way they get the content (email format, time of delivery, unsubscribe logic) matters just as much.
